I've been thinking about setting up this blog for far longer than I can remember. It was only in the last few days, when using the wall in Facebook to comment on the recent America's Cup yacht races that I realized I really needed a formalized location to begin jotting down my thoughts.
Why the title, "Messages from the Pale Blue Dot"?
Of course, this comes from Carl Sagan's description of planet earth. When reading "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bil Bryson (OK, I didn't read it, but I have listened to the audible.com audio book three times) I was impressed by the size and scale of the space in which we live and our tiny space in this infinitness. In the bigger picture of the universe in which we live, these are just messages that come from the pale blue dot we call home. Nothing special about the messages, other than that they have been digitized, recorded and saved for others to discover.
