Over the last fifteen years, I’ve found some solace and great joy on trips in Kenya to the Masai Mara in the northern reaches of the Serengeti. This huge grassy savannah is the site of the world’s greatest large mammal migration, where more than a million wildebeest and zebra migrate from Tanzania up the Great Rift Valley to the lush grasslands along the Mara River.
This was my eleventh trip from Wilson Airport in Nairobi out to the dirt airstrip at the Mara Intrepids Lodge, a tented camp surrounded by electric fence along the Talek River, a tributary of the Mara River. Over these many visits, both alone and with colleagues from the Earth Negotiations Bulletin, I’ve explored throughout the region by Land Rover and even done a fair amount of work tracking cool locations using my handheld Garmin 76CSx GPS.
My friends, Kerry ten Kate, Kate Harris and I arrived back just hours ago. This is my first swing at some photos in a slide show.
